Getting Around & Out of Mombasa
The traffic in Mombasa is generally as bad as in Nairobi making taxis quite expensive. For short distances, it's easier to go around in tuk tuks or motorbikes and cheaper to get a matatu if longer distance. The Likoni Ferry departs every 20min, every day between 8am and 5pm, to get across Mombasa Island into Southern Coast. To board the Ferry is free for pedestrians but vehicles are charged depending on weight. Flights are also available to Diani, Malindi and Lamu as well as Nairobi city.

Getting There
Mombasa is about 484km from Nairobi. You can drive, fly or ride a train from Nairobi. Opt for a flight if the almost 9-hour road trip from Nairobi is not your ideal adventure. Several airlines fly from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
